Connecting to somebody is an "buddy-system", when someone else opens your profile, he or she will be able to see who are your friends.
You initiate a connection as follows:
- go to: [User List]
- find the user of interest
- click on the name
- choose [connections] in the menu (not in the tabs below)
- choose [request connection]
- add a nice message and click [submit]
- the invited user will get an invitation by mail, and he can accept or decline to be connected to you
